I think of you eating an omelette on the ground. I think of you once against a sky line: and on the hill that Sunday morning. And that night was wonderfullest of all. The light and shadow and quietness and the rain and the wood. And you. You are so beautiful and wonderful that I daren't write you ... and kinder than God. Your arms and lips and hair and shoulders and the voice- you.
-Rupert Brooke, English Poet, to Noel Olivier. October 2nd 1911. Brooke was killed during World War One.
Love Letter Review:
This letter is rad. He thinks of her eating an omelet on the ground and claims she's kinder than GOD. Wow. "Wonderfullest" is not a word, but that's OK. What makes this letter great is the "secrets and understandings". That's the best part of a relationship is it not? This letter gets an A rating. And a quick social commentary.. guys were way open back in the day.
Here's a photograph of them together. He's the guy on the far right, and she's sitting next to him.
